How do I get a _____?

Class Change Items

This is a question that I get from visitors and hear often asked on online forums. To add some spice to the game, there are some character classes that you cannot obtain through normal class progression.  The only way to get them is to use special items on certain classes that will promote them to a new, ‘super’ class. These classes are either very specialized, or very powerful, or both! This page is dedicated to those items that award you with new and exclusive classes for your army.

BLOOD

Blood Spell

Vampyre

31,000 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: Use this item on a Knight of any level, and he will turn into a Vampyre!  A highly unknown fact that isn’t on the charts that come with either version of the game, but you can also use this item on an Evil One as well!  So at least they are good for something! This little secret works in both the SNES & PSX versions of the game.

Q: Is this class any good?

A: I think so!  I wouldn’t dare wait until you get any Evil Ones to use this item! Especially since I never use any to begin with!  Use a “BLOOD” (Blood Spell) on one of your many Knights as soon as you get one, as a Vampyre is one of the toughest classes to damage in the whole game. His defenses are very high, and his Front Row attack regains his Hit Points!  Also, they can recruit the ultra powerful Werewolf when the leader of a unit!  The only problem with them is that they sleep during the day inside their coffin, and pretty much do nothing.  Check his character bio for more information.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: There is only one surefire “BLOOD” (Blood Spell) in the entire game, and you can only get one if you take the evil path.  It can be gotten at the stage of Antanjyl, but only if you got Galf to join your party. Visit the town of Poanton for a nice haul of evil class items, including a “BLOOD” (Blood Spell).  You can also get on on the last stage, Temple Shalina, if your Reputation is low. Visit the town of Gyunpyol for your freebie. Aside from these two places (which are both late game), there are no guarantees that you will get one of these coveted items.  However, you can win them from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters.

CROWN

Dream Crown

Princess

24,000 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: Use this item on an Amazon of any level, and she will turn into a Princess!

Q: Is this class any good?

A: This class is one of the best ever!  And I personally think the best! The reasons? Her Back Row attack called Starlight is a hit-all White based attack that is strong as all hell, but that’s not all, oh no! When you make her the leader of a unit, everyone in the unit, including herself, gains an additional attack!! Imagine a Sylph with 2 Magic Missile attacks or a Lich with 4 Magic Back Row attacks!!  It’s like a free Emperor Tarot Card every battle!  Also, she can recruit Angels & Faeries. This is only really useful if you can find a “CROWN” (Dream Crown) really early in the game so that you can build them up from scratch to make them stronger in the long run.  Any of the special female characters, such as Rauny or Norn, make outstanding Princesses.  All in all, you want one. Bad! Check her character bio for more information.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: There are a few spots were you will pretty much always get a “CROWN” (Dream Crown), but they are spread way out. The first place is the stage of Muspelm.  After beating the stage, visit the town of Chiflia.  Here, you can answer either “YES” or “NO” to get a “CROWN” (Dream Crown).  The other one that I know of is on the very last stage of the game, Temple Shalina.  Visit the town of Pillary, and it’s yours.  You can also win them from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters.

There is also a pretty interesting thing that you can do to get 99 of these things!  It does, however, require that you purposely ruin any chances of getting the “World” ending, so you are warned!! To do this, all you have to do is visit the town of Chilia again on Muspelm.  You can trade all 12 Zodiac Stones for 99 “CROWNS” (Dream Crowns)!! Power up & recruit lots of ladies, and promote them to Princesses, and sit back and enjoy the show! You also sell them for 24K Goth each, so you can boost your war chest very nicely with the numerous extras you have no hope of using! Cheese factor = high!

DRAGOS

Stone of Dragos

Dragoner

10,000 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: Use this item on a Beast Master of any level, and he will turn into a Dragoner!  That’s Dragon Tamer for you PSX folks.

Q: Is this class any good?

A: It depends.  This class actually gains worse levels than a Beast Master and doesn’t have greatly higher defenses. However, a Dragoner gives you the ability to recruit Dragons, and once you hit Level 20, you can promote him to a Dragon Master.  He can recruit any base class elemental dragon for you. Both of these classes serves nicely in any unit with dragons in it, as his presence make dragons fight more effectively.  And, the Dragon Master acquires 2 targeted attacks when you place him in the Back Row, making the unit more effective as a whole. The only problem is keeping a Dragoner’s Charisma & Alignment in the necessary threshold until Level 20.  For some people, this class is far too annoying to mess with.  Check a Dragoner’s character bio for more information.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: As far as I know, there is no place in the game where you are guaranteed a “DRAGOS” (Stone of Dragos).  But fear not! You are in luck, because there are many places to snag the oh so collectable “DEMON” (Sentoul Demon)!  This is good, because in Diaspola, the wizard Borginine that lives in the town of Anglem collects these.  He will offer you many things, the “DRAGOS” (Stone of Dragos) among them, in exchange for one.  Your first one comes from the stage of Diaspola.  If you help the girl named Posha while on the stage, for your troubles, you will be rewarded with one. After beating the stage of Shiguld, visit the town of Mupan, and you’ll be given a “DEMON” (Sentoul Demon), which you could trade for one if you want. There is another one on the stage of Zeteginea.  After beating the stage, visit the town of El’ Keda for the spoil. These three will always be given to you, regardless of Reputation.  There are a few others that you can pick up with low Reputation, but I don’t remember offhand.  Both the “DRAGOS” (Stone of Dragos) and “DEMON” (Sentoul Demon) can be won from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters.

PUMPKIN

Glass Pumpkin

Pumpkin

 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: This class change item is different than the rest. How it works is simple, though.  Simply use it on a Witch of any level, and she will now be able to recruit Pumpkins, along with Hellhounds like before, when she is the leader of a unit!

Q: Is this class any good?

A: Ugh. Double ugh!! I say double ugh because you need one crappy class to get another crappy class!  My hatred of the Witch class is well known, and the ability to recruit a terrible class does not improve that stance much. Why is the Pumpkin class terrible? Weak defenses, low average level up gains, and a single attack that never hits are good enough reasons! I mean, sure, it’s a trip to watch a guy with a pumpkin for a head kick that head at his opponent, but it’s just not all that practical.  Don’t waste your time.  Check his character bio for more information.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: There is only one available to you in the entire game, and it takes a few steps to do. First off, when you face of against Deneb at Deneb’s Garden, after you win, you have choose to forgive her. That’s right, forgive the little tart! Next, when you are at Diaspola, buy a “BOUGH” (Golden Bough) for her.  If you visit Deneb’s Garden right after you beat the stage, she tells you she wants one.  Once you are done with Diaspola, come to Deneb’s Garden.  At Valaprine, Deneb will give you the “PUMPKIN” (Glass Pumpkin) as your reward. Unlike these other class items, you cannot win them from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters!  This is the only way to get one!

PUMPKIN+

Rotten Pumpkin

Halloween

5 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: Use this item on a Pumpkin of any level, and he will turn into a Halloween!

Q: Is this class any good?

A: Better than his previous form, but not better by much. He gains an extra attack, much better level up gains, but still has low-ish defenses.  Also, his chance to hit is still abysmal. Use these if you like the craziness, ditch them if you want some serious fighting power of are new to the game. These just make life tough for you.  Check his character bio for more information.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: There are two ways.  One of them is really easy. When you face of against Deneb at Deneb’s Garden, after you win, you decide not to forgive her. That’s right, let the little tart fry! Visit this stage after beating it, and go to the town of Baljib.  Every single time you visit this town, you will be given a “PUMPKIN+” (Rotten Pumpkin).  So, move your unit on and off of the town repeatedly, and get as many of these as you want! You can also win them from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters.

STAFF

Undead Staff

Sorcerer

8,400 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: Use this item on a Mage of any level, and he will turn into a Sorcerer!

Q: Is this class any good?

A: This class is awesome! Is like a Mage, only more durable and with not one, but two hit-all Magic attacks from the Back Row! He has even replaced his Front Row Hit attack with a targeted Magic attack! This class actually gains the most amount of Hit Points out of any member of the Wizard subclasses, which is interesting. The coolest aspect of this class is the ability to recruit Ghosts & Skeletons anywhere on the map! You will most definitely want some of these! Check his character bio for more information.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: Tons of places!  The first “STAFF” (Undead Staff) is on the stage of Antalia.  After beating the stage, return to the boss castle of Kander Hall, and you will find one. Another one can be gotten at the stage of Antanjyl, but only if you got Galf to join your party. Visit the town of Poanton for a nice haul of evil class items, including a “STAFF” (Undead Staff).  You can also trade with your buddy Borginine at the town of Anglem on Diaspola for one.  See the section above for places where you can get some “DEMON” (Sentoul Demon).  Both the “STAFF” (Undead Staff) and “DEMON” (Sentoul Demon) can be won from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters.

UNDEAD

Undead Ring

Sorcerer
Zombie Dragon

15,000 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: Use this item on a Sorcerer of any level, and he will turn into a Lich!  Also, use this item on a Tiamat of any level, and he will turn into a Zombie Dragon

Q: Are these classes any good?

A: You are looking at one of the best classes in the game!  A Lich is really lethal when you put him in the Back Row.  3 hit-all Magic attacks is pretty hardcore! Also, even tough a Lich is the antithesis of evil, he has 3 direct Cold Eye attacks, which are White!  And, to top it off, he can recruit Phantoms & Wraiths on the fly anywhere on the map! Truly awesome! Check his character bio for more information.

The Zombie Dragon, on the other hand, is less than stellar. I mean, sure, it’s tough as hell to damage with its high Hit Potions & defenses.  But it’s terrain type and attacks are where it falls on it’s face.  It has the terrain of Swamp, which means it gets nowhere with any kind of speed.  And it trades the 2 hit-alls of the Tiamat for two targeted Rotting Breath attacks. Not cool at all. These two reasons make him almost unusable.  If you only have one “UNDEAD” (Undead Ring), you shouldn’t have to think twice who to use it on!  Check his character bio for more information.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: Tons of places!  There are two ways to get these.  One way is to trade a “LEXICON” (Book of the Dead for one. On the Sharom Border stage, there is a wizard named Badista living in the town of Valna who is looking for a “LEXICON” (Book of the Dead).  He will trade you a “UNDEAD” (Undead Ring) for one, so this is a great place to get some. Your first “LEXICON” (Book of the Dead) can be found on Muspelm.  After beating the stage, visit the temple along the main road, and you will be given one by the priests here. The other place you can get one is the City of Malano.  After beating the stage, visit the boss castle Malano and you will get one. The other way is to find an actual “UNDEAD” (Undead Ring).  You can get one on the stage of Shiguld.  First, you have to make sure that you picked up the “JEWEL” (Dragon Jewel) item while on the stage.  After beating the stage, visit the town of Dallasu.  Here, a blue cloaked wizard will want to exchange your item for an “UNDEAD” (Undead Ring).  If you mistakenly sold the “JEWEL” (Dragon Jewel) to the merchant Toad while you were one the stage, the bastard will sell it back to you for the gouging price of 15,000 Goth!  He’s at the town of Kalishin if you need to find him again.  Both the “UNDEAD” (Undead Ring) and “LEXICON” (Book of the Dead) can be won from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters.

VIRUS

Werewolf Virus

Werewolf

Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: Use this item on a Fighter of any level, and he will turn into a Werewolf!

Q: Is this class any good?

A: This is one of the absolute best small character classes in the entire game! He’s got three attacks in either the Front Row or Back Row, has excellent, robust defenses, and gains above average levels. The bad? Well, during the daytime, he reverts to a normal Fighter.  Meaning only the attacks, defenses, levels gains, you name it!  Also, it could be considered bad that a Werewolf has the Mountain terrain types when in wolf form.  Otherwise, he’s got Plains. Still, this class is hardcore!  you will want many of these!! Check his character bio for more information.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: And that, my friend, is the challenge. This item is probably the hardest item to get in the entire game, including many of the quest items later in the game!  I am not quite sure how you get this item to be honest. In fact, I don’t believe it even exists in the PSX version!! I think that the only place you can get one of these is from the boss of Lake Jannenia, Sirus, who is a werewolf himself. I have never gotten one from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters, either.  Your best bet to getting these by either a Vampyre or neutral encounters.

Weird Items That Give You Classes

These several items aren’t really class items per say, because you don’t use them on a class to promote them to another. Instead, you use them on a deployed unit while on a stage map. The unit you use the item on has to have an open character slot in order for these items to work. Otherwise, the item will be wasted!  when it works right, you see an entirely new character appear in the unit! The new character you get follows the normal rules of recruitment, meaning that they will be two levels lower than the leader of the unit that you used the item on.

BEAST

Egg of Wonder

VARIES

6,550 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: About 85% of the time, the unit you use the item on will gain a Faerie, but I have gotten things as great as a Devil a few times too! You can get others also, but I don’t remember offhand, but it seems mostly random. Otherwise, there will be ‘nothing inside the egg’ message, and you will have wasted the item.

Q: Is this item any good?

A: This item is not a must have by any means. It is far too random to be of any use. Any of the classes you can get with this item can be gotten other ways.  Also, it isn’t too common an item, so most likely by the time you get one, it will be of no use to you. If you do find a few, to make this item more effective, save the game before you use it. This way, you can reload it when you get some stupid class that you don’t want.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: As far as I know, there are no places in the entire game that give you any of these items. So, the only way to get the it seems would be to win them from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters. But if you can’t find any, you’re really not missing much!

CHIME

Summoning Chime

VARIES

680 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: The unit you use this item on will be attacked by a neutral character in exactly the same way as when you randomly find them. Befriend them, and they join your rebellion in the stock pile! You can use this item on a fully decked out unit, unlike these other items.  For the best results, check out what types of characters are available on which terrain type, and go to that terrain and use the item on a unit there.

Q: Is this item any good?

A: With this item is that you the types of classes you will be attacked by are limited to which ones are available on a stage.  So, you can somewhat control what type of character ‘attacks’ you by going to a stage where the class you want can be found, and reloading it when that class doesn’t attack you.  Like with the “BEAST” (Egg of Wonder), this item is pretty much obsolete by the time you’ve found some.  Nothing too worry about too much if you don’t find any.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: There is one place where you can get one of these, and it’s the second to the last stage of the game, Zetegenia!  Big help it is at that point, but whatever...

FULLMOON

Full Moon Stone

Tiger Man

1,800 Goth

Q: What’s the deal with this? How do I use one?

A: All you have to do is use this item on a deployed unit that has space in it, and you will get a free Tiger Man!  Yep, it’s really that simple!  If the unit is full, you will get the message “There seems to be no Tiger Men around,” and get nothing at all!

Q: Is this class any good?

A: This class blows.  You can think of a Tiger Man as a poor man’s Werewolf.  Both classes suffer from reverting to a lowly Fighter during the daylight hours.  A Tiger Man’s defenses are slightly higher all around in comparison, but during night time hours, they only get two direct attacks instead of the Werewolf’s three.  This alone makes him inferior.  Not to mention the fact that there are much more capable small evil character classes to pick from. I’d say pass these up. Check his character bio for more information.

Q: So where can I get one of these?

A: As far as I know, there is only one in the whole game that is given to you, but it’s way late game.  First, visit the stage of Zeteginea.  After beating the stage, go to the town of Mislata, and you will be given the “TOME” (Tome of Myths).  Next, visit the stage of Fort Shulamana.  After beating the stage, return to the town of Ociwalo.  You can trade the “TOME” (Tome of Myths) for a “FULLMOON” (Full Moon Stone).    You can also win them from fights with enemy units or neutral encounters.
